Smearing homemade, delicious bread with
spreadable berries is my specialty.
makes 1 loaf
~50 minutes
3 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. fine grain salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 2/3 c. buttermilk
Preheat oven to 425 degrees, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, add the flour, salt and baking soda, stirring to make sure dry ingredients are mixed well.
Slowly pour the buttermilk into the bowl, and mix with a wooden spoon. The mixture will begin to form into a dough ball.
Lightly flour a surface to begin working the dough. (You’ll want to flour your hands, too.) Pour the dough onto the floured surface and form into a 1″ thick oval loaf. Pat the dough smooth, and cut a cross into the middle of the loaf.
Transfer the loaf onto the parchment paper lined baking sheet, and set on the top rack in the oven.
Bake for 30 minutes at 425. The loaf will be a beautiful golden brown.
Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.

It’s the perfect side to pair with any spring soup recipe. Needless to say, I’m hooked!
