Imperfect and embellished serving pieces
bring a bit of personality to your table.
wooden serving pieces
acrylic paint
preferred paint brushes
parchment paper
The beauty of this little project is that it doesn’t have to be perfect. The flaws, uneven lines and amateur paint job add character. Cut a sheet of parchment paper to fit all of your serving pieces. This is where you’ll set them to dry in between coats of paint. Begin by painting a thin coat of paint to each piece, either alternating heights or painting to a consistent level. Make sure to paint the front and sides only, leaving the back to paint once the first coat on the front has dried. This allows for time to dry on either side. Add additional coats of paint until your pieces look the way you like. I did two coats of white on each piece and an additional coat of gold on three of the six. Tied with baker’s twine and paired with a collection of recipes, these pieces would make the perfect gift.

How cool! This would be such a pretty housewarming gift.
