With a few ingredients from your pantry, these DIY remedies are the perfect solution to dry, damaged, frizzy or worn out hair.
Conditioning Hair Mask: Have dry ends? Mix 4 tbs. of raw organic honey with 4 tbs. of melted organic coconut oil and let cool. Once the mixture has become solid, smooth onto ends of hair from the ears down. Let the mask set for 30 minutes and wash hair as normal. Apply the mask once a week or as needed. It will deeply hydrate your ends, giving life and body back to your ‘do.
Clarifying Cider Rinse: Smooth and shinny hair is just three ingredients away. Whisk 1 tbs. apple cider vinegar with 1/2 c. water and a few drops of scented essential oil. Pour the mixture over damp hair, comb through the ends with a thick tooth comb, and rinse completely clean. After just one use, the acidity in the vinegar will help to smooth and restore your damaged, rough hair cuticles.
Dry Shampoo: It’s always a good idea to have a good dry shampoo on hand. All you need is an empty spice jar, 4 tbs. of arrowroot flour (light hair) or 4 tbs. unsweetened cocoa powder (dark hair), 2 tbs. kaolin clay, 1 tbs. baking soda and a few drops of scented essential oil. Mix the ingredients in a bowl, and pour into the spice jar with a funnel. Shake well to make sure everything is incorporated. Use as needed to freshen up and give lift to your limp, oily roots.
Brightening Rinse: Feeling a bit dull or brassy? Combine 1/4 tbs. purple Grape Kool Aid with 4 tbs. shampoo and lather up. This makes a lot of shampoo–feel free to save half in a zip-top bag for later use. Apply the mixture in the shower as normal, making sure to rinse both your hair and tub completely clean. The purple tint will wash out, leaving your locks bright again.
