Named for a defensive artillery site, The Battery played a significant role during the Civil War. (The firing on Fort Sumter started here.) It’s stately antebellum homes, however, date as far back as the American Revolution. Over the years, these mansions have been restored, refurbished and converted into beautiful B&Bs.
