Easy hair updates . . .
Rather than take the plunge on a new color or a drastic cut, I’ve rounded up a few ideas that don’t break the bank. Plus, you can mix and match, switch up your style and reinvent your ‘do without any long term commitments. Can you say faux bangs? Or what about a bob for a day? You’re definitely going to want to try a few of these easy hair updates.
Change your part
This simple switch can dramatically change your look. If you normally part your hair on one side, try either a center part or a part on the opposite side. You’ll notice that the swap instantly adds volume to your roots. I like to shower before bed and comb my wet hair into the part I’m hoping to achieve the next day. Then, I use bobby pins to secure the hair in place. The next morning my part may still need a bit of work, but the head start is always welcome.
Mix in accessories
With a few statement making accessories, you can easily take your look from drab to fab. I’ve rounded up a few holiday styles to get your creative juices flowing. These looks are simple to achieve and incorporate accessories like gilded barrettes, pearls and floral finishes. You’ll be a fan in no time.
Fake a bob
Testing out a shorter ‘do is a cinch with this 3 style faux bob tutorial by Refinery 29. (You’ll want to have quite a few bobby pins on hand for this one.) I’ve found that it’s easiest to follow the second style from the tutorial. It takes about 15 minutes to complete thanks to a nifty braid that hides everything underneath. See the rest of the steps here.
Add hair extensions
If you’re a shorter haired girl, long locks are just a few extensions away. I found a few fun styles on Amazon–like these faux bangs, this top-knot bun + a gorgeous clip-in ponytail. The best part is that they come in multiple shades to coordinate with your current hair color. I’m a big fan because with a small investment, these faux hair extensions can instantly change your look.

My thoughts exactly, Christine! It’s always nice to test out a new ‘do (without spending any $).

Oh my goodness, I am so trying hair style #2! Love it…now question is, how easy is it to do on yourself? Fun!

Hi Sarah! I’m no hair guru, but with a bit of practice I’ve managed to make #2 look pretty dang good. I’ve found that it works better if I start by curling my hair and using a bit of texturizing product. This makes my bobbie pins hold better.
