Bangs 101 . . .
I’ve had bangs on and off throughout the years, I’ve rounded up what I’ve learned via trial and error. Thankfully, there have been a lot of good hair days. I’ve loved having an actual style that feel fun and flirty. Bangs are really great, but they can also be your worst nightmare. Here’s what I know, a few styling tips and my necessary hair hacks. Worst (or best!) case scenario? Buy some clip-in bang extensions to wear whenever you get the itch. No long term commitment necessary.
Get a cut/style that flatters your face shape. I recently stumbled upon this beauty article and feel like I struck gold. It’s all about having the right shape of bangs for your frame. I’m somewhere between a round/square face shape, so I tend to stick with slightly rounded style that helps to balance out my face.
Less is more when it comes to hot tools. Let’s be honest. The last thing you want is to fry your bangs–it’s not a good look. Instead, give your bangs some oomph by letting them air dry on a self-grip roller. I’ve found that the largest size roller (2″) provides just enough curl and lift.
Go easy with the highlights. If you’re a fan of highlights, work with your stylist to loosely incorporate some natural looking color into your existing bangs or hair you plan to cut. This ensures that your bangs will blend well with the rest of your hair. You definitely don’t want one to stand out from the other.
Bobby pins are your very best friend. I never really understood the saying ‘out of sight, out of mind’ until I tried to grow out bangs. I’m currently in the process (we’ll see how long this lasts), and they’re at that awkward, not-long-enough-to-act-like-layers length. Can you relate?!? The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that the more they’re in your face, the more likely you’ll be to get them cut.
Ask about styling products + helpful tips. Any time I’m in my stylist’s chair, I pick her brain for new tips and tricks. It’s especially helpful when I’m trying a new style, like bangs. Three questions I always ask are: how should I style this for the everyday, how can I do it for date night and what’s the best way to wear my hair to the gym. This strategy minimizes the guess work when you have to tackle your hair on your own.

Dry shampoo, dry shampoo, dry shampoo! Bangs tend to get dirtiest the fastest since they’re on/around our faces. I found a dry shampoo I love and I use it religiously, even if my bangs don’t particularly look like they need it and they sit so much better!

So true! I’m glad you mentioned dry shampoo–it’s always a major time saver.
