Our kitchen layout . . .
You know how the saying goes. The kitchen is the heart of your home, and I couldn’t agree more. That’s why we teamed up with Inspired Kitchen Design to hash out the details of our initial kitchen layout. Their team was a pleasure to work with, delivering a design that functions and feels like the space I want to call home.
If you’re new to the renovation game, here’s some background. Inspired Kitchen Design specializes in creating personalized kitchen layouts for IKEA cabinetry. They’re arguably the best in the business because they do ALL the leg work. As part of their design service, IKD provides multiple renderings, detailed measurements and an entire IKEA shopping list with every little piece you need. Plus, they’ll include a final set of plans for your installer, with each cabinet numbered for quick and easy setup.
What’s the catch? The only con to this process is having to take the basic measurements yourself. This was a little bit daunting, and I spent hours measuring just to make sure I got every detail right. To start the design process, you’ll fill out a survey telling IKD what’s most important for your kitchen design. Then, you’ll upload these basic measurements and inspiration pictures. This information helps give IKD a more clear picture of what you want, need and are dreaming of for your design.
Even though we ultimately decided not to go with IKEA cabinetry, our detailed kitchen layout from IKD has been so helpful in the renovation process. I’m not a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants sort of gal. I like to make plans and go by those plans to see a project through. Our designs have already helped us pick out the right size appliances, solidify the measurements of our solid surface countertops and order the cabinetry we are going to use. These are all expensive purchases that I can feel good about making because I have a detailed set of plans in place.
My takeaway: I can’t say enough good things about working with Inspired Kitchen Design. If anything, the design service (+ under $300 price tag) is well worth the peace of mind for any home renovating, type-A personality planner like me.
Stay tuned. More design details are coming soon!

Why didn’t you decide to go with IKEA cabinets? Which ones are you using instead?

Hi Shannon! Great question. We’ve heard SO many great things about IKEA cabinetry from both our family and friends, and the IKD design service makes the process a breeze. The only reason we decided not to go with IKEA cabinets was because we got an offer from our carpenter that we couldn’t refuse!
