Ways to treat yourself everyday . . .
Now that our baby Violet is here, I can come to terms with the idea of being a mom of two. It feels a little bit intimidating even typing out the words! My first year with Mary Jane was a big adjustment. I learned so many things about myself–things like these five ways to treat yourself everyday. They may seem little and insignificant, but they’ve made such a big impact on the day to day. Here’s how I’m learning to be the best version of me (and also treat myself to the sweet return of my favorite childhood cereal, Post® Oreo® O’s!).
Make Your Bed
Start your day out on the right foot by making your bed each morning. I love the advice this Navy Seal Admiral gives. He explains that making your bed each morning ‘will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another.’ Plus, there’s nothing better than curling up into a neatly made bed each night. By simply carving out a few extra AM seconds, you can treat yourself to this simple delight each and every day.
Take 5 Minutes for Makeup
As a stay-at-home working mom, a full face of makeup isn’t very practical most days. Rather than ditch it all together, I opt for a five minute face. My paired down routine is simple and includes just the essentials. I always start with face serum + moisturizer. Next comes under eye concealer, a swipe of blush and a healthy dose of mascara. I top it all off with my favorite lip balm. It’s just what I need to feel confident when I have to engage in public.
Go for a Walk
Over the past year, I’ve made it a habit to take Mary Jane for a 30 minute walk after lunch. And, with our second baby, I’m definitely sticking to the routine. It’s a great way to break up the day–you can’t compete with a bit of fresh air. It really helps to clear your head, refocus your thoughts and put things into perspective. Plus, Mary Jane really enjoys seeing the dogs, cats and birds in our neighborhood. Win, win.
Plan for a 3PM Pick-Me-Up
Those afternoon blues tend to hit each day around 3:00, so I make sure to have my favorite snack on hand. The nostalgic taste of Post® Oreo® O’s cereal tends to do the trick. It instantly reminds me of the simply joys in life. Is there really anything better than the taste of cookies and milk? And, at just 120 calories a serving, it doesn’t spoil my dinner. The mom in me is beaming with pride. (Psst! You can find yourself a box at your local Kroger store in the cereal aisle.)
End Each Day with Gratitude
It’s so easy to get caught up in the ‘busy’ and ‘go-go-go’ attitude of today’s world. Whenever I catch myself getting overwhelmed, I make a list of 10 things I’m grateful for. I like to do it at night as I’m laying in bed because it forces me to reflect on the day and find joy in even the smallest of moments. No matter how hard my day has been, I always feel a greater sense of love + appreciation when I’m done.
So, how do you treat yourself everyday? Need a box of Post® Oreo® O’s cereal?

Love these ideas! I try to treat myself to one guilty pleasure each day after work. Whether that’s having some chips and guac or watching a silly reality show, I find it keeps my stress levels to a minimum!
