A June to-do list . . .
Break out the watermelon because summer is finally here! We’re kicking off the season with weekend park dates, BBQs + picnics and time spent in the sun. We may even make our way to the splash pad a time or two. Now that the weather is warmer, possibilities really are endless! What do you have planned? I’ve rounded up 10 things you might want to add to your June to-do list. Let’s dive right in.
Pickup Dinner at the Farmers Market
There’s nothing better than fresh fruit and veggies this time of the year. Challenge yourself to create a meal out of things from the seasonal market or fruit stand–this could be a really fun date night activity. How absolutely beautiful + delicious does this Farmers Market Salad look?
Wear SPF or a Hat Anytime You’re Outdoors
Preventing sun damage is important at any age. I’ve learned that it’s never a bad idea to wear protection any time you’re outdoors. I like to wear a baseball cap most days of the week–it’s a great way to hide messy (mom) hair or seamlessly transition from gym to dinner with friends. Here are a few styles I’m currently loving. Add Morning Walks to Your Routine
Research shows that walking is a mood booster. A brisk 15 minute mile walk around your neighborhood is an easy way to start the day on a positive note. (Read the article here.)
Make a Fresh Berry Pie
I recently stumbled upon this recipe for fresh strawberry pie. Doesn’t it sound delicious? The ingredients are simple, and prep is under 40 minutes. It’d be an ideal ending to a summer Sunday dinner.
Unwind Each Night with Meditation Yoga
This 12 minute session of mediation yoga is a great way to end the day. It helps me relax, destress and focus on myself instead of the 50 things I didn’t accomplish on my growing to-do list. Can you relate? If so, set aside time before bed to unwind with a rest-inducing flow like this one. Click here to PIN this post so you can come back to this video later!
Do Something New + Unknown
Learning how to cope with new + unknown things is an important part of life, and summer is the perfect time to do it. Why not sign up for an outdoor water aerobics class, go hiking with your church group or sign up at the local culinary school for an ethnic cooking class. What do you have to lose? Whatever your new + unknown might be, now is the time to do it.
Buy a New Swimsuit
Last month, I took inventory of my swimsuit collection and listed quite a few on Poshmark. It felt SO good getting rid of suits that didn’t spark joy. Thanks for the inspo, Marie Kondo! I ended up buying a couple sportier styles that feel both practical (mom-friendly) and fun. How cute is this lineup? Click any of the photos below to see the product details.
Psst! I also found 25 red one-piece swimsuits for every body + budget. Click here to read my blog post.
Take a Break from Technology
We all have some sort of technology on hand throughout the day. It’s a necessary part of life, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need an occasional reset. Start by setting your phone/tech aside for just an hour here or there, and eventually, work your way up to detoxing for an entire day. This article via Brit & Co. dishes dirt on four benefits that could come as a result.
Spend the Day in Nature
Experts across the board have found that nature sounds and natural scenery can reduce stress. This article explains that a Japanese practice called ‘forest bathing’ is really, really good for you. The simple act of spending time in a forested area helps fight cognitive fatigue, depression and anxiety. Fancy an afternoon woodland stroll?
Give a Thank You Note
Write a handwritten note of thanks or send a quick email. It’s never a bad idea to send a thank you note to someone–it’s a small gesture that always goes a long way.
So, what’s on your to-do list this month?
