An August to-do list . . .
And just like that, the summer glow is slowly starting to fade. We have a lot on our plate this month–we’re finally finishing a big home renovation, I have boxes to pack, two babies to tend and a trip to Mississippi that we’re really looking forward to. This time of year always feels so exciting and new. How are you celebrating the end of summer and the unofficial start of fall? Here are 10 things that you could + should add to your August to-do list.
Brunch at the Farmer’s Market
There’s nothing better than starting your day with food from a few of your local favorites. We love hitting the farmer’s market on weekends because the food trucks + restaurant pop-ups always show up. They tend to serve to-go versions of their best sellers or seasonal dishes that are packed with flavor. Go hungry, and leave happy.
Invest in a New Pair of Sneakers
Fall is just around the corner. Why not invest in a versatile pair of sneakers you can wear NOW AND LATER? I’ve rounded up a few styles that’d go with just about everything. You can mix ‘n match them to your heart’s content. Click the photos below to SHOP the styles.
End Dinner with S’mores
How cute and easy are these s’mores cups? They can even be served DIY style. Just prep the ingredients ahead of time and bring them out after dinner. Everyone will love layering up their own dessert.
Reinstate Face Mask Friday
I really like to slough off the weekday woes by doing a face mask on Fridays. It’s such an easy way to unwind, detox and show my skin a little bit of love. You can read more about it in this post.
Organize, Store + Donate
Back to school season is a great time to organize your things, store items out of season and donate the ones you don’t want/need anymore. After some crowdsourcing, I discovered that the best way to make the biggest impact is to donate through local channels. Reach out to church leaders, youth groups or community centers. They generally have a good sense of exactly who needs what, and they can help facilitate delivery.
Level Up Your Beauty Routine
Chances are, your hair + skin could really use a refresh after a summer full of fun. Go in for a new cut, schedule a deep condition or finally get that hydrafacial you’ve been itching to try.
Do a Staycation
Before the season gets too busy, block out an entire weekend to play tourist in your own city. I’m talking dinner al fresco at the cafe on the corner, a Saturday afternoon stroll through the art museum and Sunday morning spent at the park. You could even squeeze in ice cream + brownie sundaes from an old school diner and a dip at a hotel pool (see about purchasing a day pass!).
Buy New Bedding
FYI, experts like Martha Stewart recommend replacing your bedding + pillows every 1-2 years. This Bedding Care 101 article is packed with ALL the helpful tips you’ll ever want and need. Grab a cold soda and dig right in. I’ll just be adding a few new pillows to my Amazon cart. Click the photos below to see what we’ve gotten + I’m eyeing for @ourmidmodreno.
Make a Batch of Cookies
My little ones aren’t heading back to school, but we’re still baking up a BIG batch of these chocolate chip cookies. They’re our favorite! I love the idea of starting each school year with homemade comfort food. Add a cookie to that lunch box or pair ’em with apple slices + a tall glass of milk. After school snacking never tasted so good.
Rest, Rest, Rest
To-do lists are great, and I love the rush that comes from being productive. BUT, don’t forget to also schedule time to rest. It’s just as important as any other line item you can/could/should add to your August agenda. In months to come, your body will definitely thank you.
What do you think? What’s on your August to-do list?

I love that you have this round-up! I believe it is so important to maintain goals and keep a list. It works wonders for me. This month I am studying for my CBEST (yikes) so I’m sure many mornings will be spent at a local cafe to watch math tutorials haha. I hope you have a great month of rest/productivity. 🙂
