A September to-do list . . .
August was a whirlwind month for us, and I’m so excited to slow down + enjoy the start of a new season. Fall is always my favorite. I love the food flavors (pumpkin chocolate chip, FTW!), wearing extra layers and seeing the changing leaves. Who’s with me? Let’s celebrate September with a packed to-do list full of festive fun.
Take the Girls to the State Fair
Has anyone seen the 1945 movie State Fair? If not, get cozy because it’s linked below. Though today’s more modern setup isn’t quite as charming, I still love taste-testing ALL the fair foods, seeing the award-winning livestock and riding a carnival ride or two. How about you? FYI: the Utah State Fair runs through September 15th (get more info here).
Have an ‘End of Summer Picnic’
There’s still time for one last Summer hurrah—pack up your picnic blanket and stop at the local gourmet grocer for some delicious, ready-made grub. We usually get a 12” deli sandwich, some pumpkin chocolate cookies from the bakery and a bag of extra salty chip. Don’t forget to grab utensils, napkins + a few plates. They always come in handy!
Go for After Dinner Walks
Science says that going for a walk after dinner is definitely a good thing. You can read more in this TIME article. It aids in digestion, distracts the kids until bath time and burns a few extra calories. But really, what more could you want?
Invest in a Great Pair of Jeans
The temps are starting to drop, and I’m excited to break out a few of my favorite fall pieces. These Levi’s jeans go with everything. I love the higher waistline, and the ankle opening works perfectly with all of my boots. It can be worn both cuffed or unrolled with a raw hem. I’ve linked a few popular styles by well-known denim brands below. You can SHOP by clicking each of the photos.
Make a Big Batch of Chili
This Italian chili recipe is tried and true. I make it at least once a month once tailgating season hits (and it’s always a to-do on my September list!). Prep couldn’t be easier, and the whole batch is ready in just 30 minutes. I’d say that’s a game day win.
Do a Scenic Drive
Scope out the local scenery and make plans for a long Sunday drive. The canyons here in Utah are starting to feel like fall—the trees are even starting the change colors!
Psst! Why not kill two birds with one stone? Take your picnic basket along for the ride. I bet there will be a pretty spot to stop along the way.
Get a Babysitter + Go on a Nice Date
There’s a Sicilian restaurant in our new neighborhood, and I’ve been dying to give it a try. Why wait around for a special occasion? Any date night can be a fancy one, especially if you hire a babysitter. Dress up, put on some red lipstick and go. How cute would this floral dress be with a pair of knee boots? Buy it now (at 40% OFF!), and thank me later. Wink, wink.
Keep Weekends Tech Free
I’ve made a conscious effort to unplug and detach myself from my cell phone as much as possible lately. It hasn’t been easy, but I have noticed that I feel LESS anxious. This is actually fitting because I chose to focus on the word ‘less’ for 2019. You can read my Word of the Year blog post here. How do you combat feelings of overwhelm? For me, ditching unnecessary tech is a great place to start.
Schedule that Beauty Appointment
It’s the beginning of a new season–that means a fresh cut, color or style is justifiably due. You better believe that I’ll be scrolling through my Hair Care Secrets archives for a bit of inspiration. See something you like?
Stretch, Breathe, Stretch
I’ve mentioned yoga before bedtime in previous posts. Guys, this is a total game changer. Carve out 5-10 minutes each night to stretch, breathe and meditate. This 6-Minute Yoga Chill video on YouTube is perfect for beginners. I bet you’ll be surprised just how much your mind + body need it.
Did I forget something? What’s on YOUR September to-do list?

I always love your to-do lists. These are such great ideas! I don’t think I’ve ever been to the Utah State Fair! I guess I need to go. haha
