Blogger burnout . . .
After five plus years of professional blogging, I’ve learned a thing or two about beating blogger burnout. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, and every blogger experiences some level of fatigue along the way. Instead of quitting or feeling down, I’ve come up with five positive ways to beat it. Girl, let’s show burnout who’s boss.
Take a Mini Blogging Break
Yes, this seems like the obvious answer. Start small with a weekend detox. I’m talking a no emails, no social media and no work for at least 24 hours. Use this time to completely unplug and recharge your blogging batteries.
Work Smarter, Not Harder
I’ve been scheduling Pinterest posts using Tailwind for the past year. It’s a game-changer. This allows me to automatically publish multiple posts a day from my Pinterest account. (Psst! You can get your 1st month free using this referral link!) I’ve also started scheduling Facebook posts to promote new blog content. This means I don’t have to actually be online multiple times a day. My content still gets shared, and I can be in the moment at home with my kids.
Start a New Vertical
One of my favorite ways to beat burnout is to share a new aspect of my life or interests. This is the perfect excuse to let your personality (and funky quirks!) shine. I’m talking Netflix movie reviews, a peek into your coveted cookbook collections + recipes you love from each, bucket lists and 101 posts about starting hobbies like gardening. If it’s something you love, someone else will probably love it, too.
Less Time Consuming, More Time Creating
Miranda of Live Free Creative recently shared an Instagram post that really struck a cord with me. Sometimes, you just need to turn off the radio. Sometimes, you just need to hum a tune to yourself. Instead of consuming what everyone else is putting out there, why not take the time to create something of your own. Step away from the computer screen, work with your hands and let those creative juices flow.
Think Quality Over Quantity
After Violet was born, I made the conscious decision to produce less filler content. (I needed to make a big change–two under two is no joke.) This provided the opportunity to focus all my effort on creating a few solid, well written and researched blog posts each month. To my surprise, less did end up equaling more. These quality posts have significantly increased overall blog traffic and created more returning readers.
Have you ever experienced burnout? How do you cope?
