Tinsel ornament wreath . . .
We started decking the halls a bit earlier this year, and I’m not mad about it at all. Rather than rush toward the finish line, the slow roll out has given our family the chance to really appreciate the process. We’re soaking it all in, and our girls look forward to decorating something new each day (snoop last year’s decor here). At this point, the mistletoe hanging, sugar cookie baking and Jingle Bells singing has become a staple in our at-home preschool routine. The girls even helped with this easy tinsel garland project. I’m no Martha Stewart, but I’m quite pleased with the extra bit of sparkle it adds to the space.
DIY Mid-Century Wreath
Things You’ll Need:
Foam Wreath Form
Strands of Tinsel Garland
12-20 Ornaments in Assorted Colors + Textures
Hot Glue Gun + Glue Sticks
Wreath How-to:
Start by laying out all your ornaments, mixing and matching colors, textures and sizes. I decided on an asymetical layout, but possibilities are endless. Make it your own!
Next, glue each ornament in it’s proper place on the foam wreath form. I used a dime sized amount of glue for each ornament, and I added glue between ornaments if they happened to touch.
Wrap the tinsel garland around the wreath form, securing each loop with hot glue on the backside of the wreath. When you get to the portion of the form covered in ornaments, simply wrap the tinsel around each ornament. Be sure to glue everything in place as you go. If there are holes between ornaments, you can fill them in at the end with extra garland.
To fill in miscellaneous and hard to wrap holes between ornaments, I put hot glue on the form, cut a small piece of the garland strand and used a pencil to push the garland piece into the hole. This worked perfectly for the teeny spaces been ornaments.
Let the hot glue completely cool before hanging your wreath on the wall. I used a small photo hanging hook to secure my wreath in place.
Note: I used a 12″ foam wreath form, 14 standard size ornaments and one 12 foot strand of tinsel garland. Get creative, add extra ornaments or double up on the garland! Be sure to tag me on Instagram if you make one of your own. I’d LOVE to see it.
