Memphis style barbecue . . .
If you’re a long time reader of FBT, you know I spent most of my formative years living in Mississippi. It’s a time I look back on fondly–the food, the sports, the charm. The South can be a really great place to raise a family. It’s also a really great place to eat bbq. I’ve had my fair share over the years, and I’ve never met a plate I didn’t like. Guys, I’ve eaten a lot of really delicious ‘cue. So when I say that the combo platter from Central BBQ knocked the ball out of the park, I’m talking grand slam.
Traditionally, Memphis style barbecue is known for slow cooked and expertly seasoned pork. Central BBQ’s famous Pulled Pork Sandwich has been voted #1 in countless contests. This made our dinner decision pretty easy. Jake and I shared a combo plate with pulled pork and beef brisket. Since I’m a sucker for sides, we went big. I’m talking fries, mac ‘n cheese, potato salad and coleslaw. It was a classic southern sampling. And yes indeed, we left feeling full + completely satisfied.
Planning a night in Memphis? We visited the Central BBQ Downtown location. It’s next-door to the Civil Rights Museum, the Lorraine Motel and just a five minute walk from Arrive Memphis. Be sure to plan some extra time to walk around the neighborhood. This area has seen a lot of renovation, refurbishment and restoration over the past couple of years.
