El Fogón for tacos . . .
After we checked into The Fives Downtown, our first order of business was to find where the locals dine. It didn’t take long to realize that El Fogón came up as a consistent favorite. Their selection of authentic Mexican cuisine hits all the right notes–there’s something to love in every section of the menu.
The chorizo tacos are at the top of our list. Hit ’em with a squeeze of fresh lime, and I guarantee you’ll be back for more. We did both lunch and dinner x2 at El Fogón. It was both a practical and delicious decision, basically the ideal way to sample the menu. We also really enjoyed their carne asada and sirloin fonduta (a serving of melted queso with juicy chunks of sirloin to turn into tacos). The homemade corn tortillas are also something to talk about. They practically melt in your mouth.
EAT LIKE A LOCAL Tip
I highly recommend snagging a table on the second floor balcony. It overlooks the neighborhood and really enhances the experience. While downing a plate of tacos, you’ll enjoy a nice breeze and the sound of a bustling crowd below. This corner is a happening place once the sun begins to set.
